Even though I wasn’t thrilled with this piece for Suzi Blu’s petite doll class, I decided to finish it. The flash makes the gold leaf stand out way too much. It is more blended in the photo. I would have retaken the photo, but what I wanted to show you was the face and it is clear enough in the photo. See all those color imperfections on the face? They happened after I applied beeswax to the piece.
Now I know why Suzi doesn’t put wax on her girls’ faces!

Unfortunately, the paint tends to scrap or peel off when you apply the hot iron to the face. Or, it burns and darkens too much. If you want to put beeswax on the face to seal it, just brush over it quickly with a little tiny bit of wax. Don’t smooth it out with the iron.
Another thing to watch out for..I don’t know if your iron does this, but if left sitting for a while my iron burns the liquid wax and it blackens. It settles down on the bottom of my iron, where I can’t see it. I forget that it does this, grab my iron and ack! I’ve put blackened wax on my painting. Depressing!!

Miz Katie,
Thanks for the tips. I’ll have to keep practicing.

You are multi-talented! Don’t give up on Stamping, though!! Close To My Heart has a complete line of acyrlic stamps that are just beautiful, and so much easier to use and clean up. I’ve uploaded some of my artwork to my blog if you want to check it out.

Here’s my CTMH website http://www.elsiestamps.myctmh.com if you want to check that out.
Good luck on your projects!
